Dunes

The Granary Theatre
24th-27th March 2010 @ 8pm  €8/€6

Dunes is a devised performance that took as its point of departure, Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel Dune (1965) and its spectacular film adaptation by David Lynch (1984). But this is not an attempt to retell Herbert’s story or to explore his characters, nor even to investigate the ecology and customs of Arrakis.

Novel and film leave their traces in the sand and in the memory of a woman who goes to the desert in search of solitude and inner quiet. Perhaps in this deserted place she can find a means to escape, to re-create herself, to resolve her neuroses, or simply pass the time and then disappear….

Dunes was initiated as a collaboration with Roberta Mock and MA students at the University of Plymouth, whose companion piece with the same title opened at The Peninsula Arts Centre on 18th February 2010.

Devised and performed by UCC DTS MA students, Siúbhan Nielsen, Danielle Kellerman, and Cuan Muyllaert in collaboration with Franc Chamberlain
