Spirit of Sign in association with Granary presents
DOWN THROUGH THE yEARS - A Brief History of the Deaf World
Granary Theatre | Wed 21st Sat 24th May | 8pm
How much do you know about the challenges that deaf people have faced throughout history? From cave dwellers to space-travellers, from medieval monks to the Nazi holocaust, we take you on a deaf journey through time. Hilarious and heartbreaking, you will witness history through different eyes…and different ears.
Working with Marcus Bale (Snatch Improv Comedy) and Donal Gallagher (Asylum Productions), Spirit of Sign have created a unique piece of physical, visual theatre that is funny, poignant, enlightening and universal. Spirit of Sign is the first Deaf Drama Group based in Cork, formed in October 2006 when members of the Deaf community were invited to contribute to the Asylum/Enable Ireland co-production Community Spirit. Since then, the group have produced a number of short films including a choreographed ISL signed performance of " The Minstrel Man " by Langston Hughes and a TV short entitled Silent Night (currently being considered for RTE's Hands On series).
This new piece follows last years highly successful live show Stuff That Happens When You're Deaf .
