Everyone has a novel inside them, but for some unfortunates it’s the other way around. Richard, struggling to become a struggling writer, discovers that he is turning into his own modernist novel, becoming his own dislocated characters and living through a seemingly random narrative. This impossible yet strangely actual state of affairs forces him to confront what he thinks he is doing, what he wants to do, and much else besides. A play about trying to write, trying not to write, and the meaning of life. And an unfathomable nostalgia for the golden days of elevator music.
